Like me, many of you are off on Friday. What do our Fridays (or whatever day you have off for working Sunday) bring? There really is no telling. Much depends on what season of life you are in or what is happening immediately surrounding your life. Fridays are the day I do a good bit of my NACFM Executive Director work. On top of that there is always a family need or a need around the house or errands to run or doctor visits to make or… And there is almost always the inevitable, a “sorry to bother you” from church to address. There are a few exceptions but Fridays, my day off, bring business.
Despite the business of Fridays I always start my mornings by getting up a little slower, taking a longer shower, and heading off to breakfast. From there I visit one of my favorite stores, not to shop really, just to be in a place I like to be looking around at stuff I like to look at. My two favorites are home improvement stores and electronic stores. That every Friday routine takes about three hours of my time and by 10:00 or so I am doing the “What Friday Brings.”
Honestly, it is unrealistic for me to have a complete day of rest in my season unless I’m vacationing. You may find yourself in the same season. Despite what pulls at your time take a little of it to just do nothing but what you enjoy. Do something that requires no thought and with no one seeking input. Metaphorically – Go out and enjoy your breakfast and marvel at the new technologies. Make sure your Friday brings a little rest.
