The Toilet
MESSAGE FROM NACFM PRESIDENT TORY KORTHUIS
As we approach the repair or installation of a bathroom toilet, let us embark on a devotional journey recognizing the sacred aspects of everyday tasks. Proverbs 16:3 guides our hands as we engage in this practical endeavor: "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." In fixing the bathroom toilet, may our commitment reflect a spirit of stewardship and diligence. Begin by acknowledging the challenge, drawing strength from Philippians 4:13, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength." As you assess the issue, remember that challenges are opportunities for growth, much like the refining process our faith undergoes. In the pursuit of a functional toilet, let patience be your companion. James 1:4 reminds us, "Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." Embrace the process, for in patiently installing the toilet you cultivate virtues that extend beyond the bathroom. Consult guides and seek wisdom, echoing Proverbs 2:6, "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." As you turn wrenches and tighten connections, may you also turn to God for the wisdom to navigate the intricacies of the task at hand. In addition, consider the act of installing the toilet as a metaphor for repairing relationships. Colossians 3:13 encourages forgiveness: "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Apply this principle as you mend leaks and restore the flow, recognizing that repair, both in the bathroom and in life, often requires a forgiving spirit. In the completion of the task, express gratitude, recalling Colossians 3:17, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." A fixed toilet becomes an altar of gratitude, a reminder that even in practical matters we can offer our efforts as a form of worship. As you stand before the newly installed bathroom toilet, take a moment to reflect. May this seemingly mundane act of installation be a reminder that our daily tasks, when approached with a spirit of commitment, patience, wisdom, forgiveness, and gratitude, become acts of devotion in the canvas of our lives. I did enjoy writing this devotional. God opened my eyes before I even started writing this to make sure I added how this came to light. Every day we have mundane projects that must get done. Yes, toilets must be replaced and installed and sometimes we must teach others how to do this. I received a call from a member in Texas who was teaching his crew how to install new toilets. He was getting frustrated that the new toilets were not setting just right, and they would leak. Plus, the added pressure of “all eyes were on him" added a little stress. He was able to step back, look at the problem, and with a little help he found the solution – all requiring patience and humility. God will use just about anything to teach us. God is the ultimate teacher. Blessings to all,
Tory Korthuis, CCFM NACFM President

Take a Practical Approach to Worship Center Security
In most Western societies, religious institutions were safe havens. Today, the threat of worship center violence is commonplace. To address this threat, don’t focus on perfection; focus on practicality.
