Happy Birthday, Gary, from all of us at the NACFM! May your day and year be blessed and impactful for our Lord.
Doing Good Works…
MESSAGE FROM
NACFM PRESIDENT GARY ROBINSON
While out doing fun stuff on my birthday, my cell phone rang. When I checked the caller ID, I couldn’t keep from smiling. It was our Director of Membership, Chris Shelton. I knew that he was making “the” happy birthday call. It is a tradition of the National Association of Church Facility Managers for the Director of Membership to call every member on their birthday to wish them well. If you have been a member for at least a year, you have been the recipient of one of these calls. This was my twenty-first birthday call from the NACFM.
Later that day, I checked my email. There was a birthday card from the NACFM. In addition to a colorful birthday greeting, the cover included the verse;
Ephesians 2:10.
“For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
What a wonderful description of a Church Facility Manager. We are each a child of God, made with His hands. We were created to do good works through Christ, not out of obligation, but out of love for our Lord and Savior. Those good works were prepared in advance for us to do. We were called by God to do this job! Think about that, chosen by God. What a privilege! What a responsibility!
In the message of the card, it says,
“We wish your day and year to be blessed and impactful for our Lord.”
Wow, that is quite a wish! It is not unusual to have people wish for our day and year to be blessed. How many times has someone wished that your day and year would be impactful for the Lord? This is a first for me.
After reading the card, I had three thoughts.
First, I wish I was smart enough and creative enough to design and write a card so perfect for its recipients.
Second, I am thankful to belong to an organization that cares about its members and celebrates them as individuals.
Third, I am so blessed to be a part of a group of men and women that were not only called by God but have chosen to run the race God has set before them. In a world where some people spend a lifetime trying to find their purpose, Church Facility Managers get up every morning knowing that we serve a loving God, and we have the privilege of doing the good works He has chosen for us.
As you do good works today, I hope your day is blessed and impactful for the Lord.

For Tim McWilliams the profession of a facility manager and his devotion to other areas of ministry are not separate callings. Beyond his ministry as an FM and the Director of Church Operations, Tim is an organizer of blood drives, team member for Appalachia mission trips, and a leader in the church's youth work. And, of course, Tim's first priority, just behind his relationship with Christ, is his wife Karen and their children. The family has resided in Raleigh since 2003.
