Guidance in Governance
MESSAGE FROM
NACFM PRESIDENT TORY KORTHUIS
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Facilities managers play a crucial role in ensuring that buildings and spaces operate smoothly and efficiently. Your responsibilities encompass a wide array of tasks, from overseeing maintenance and repairs to managing budgets
and coordinating with vendors. During these multifaceted duties, it's common to encounter challenges and uncertainties that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or unsure of the best course of action.
Proverbs 3:5-6 serves
as a timeless reminder of where to turn when faced with uncertainty. It encourages us to place our trust not in our own understanding or abilities, but in the wisdom and guidance of the Lord. As a facilities manager, you are called
to steward the resources and spaces entrusted to you, but you don't have to navigate this responsibility alone. God invites you to lean on Him, acknowledging His sovereignty and seeking His direction in every decision you make.
Trusting in the Lord doesn't mean disregarding your expertise or abandoning careful planning; rather, it means inviting God into the process and aligning your plans with His will. Whether you're devising strategies for preventive
maintenance, resolving conflicts within your team, or addressing unexpected emergencies, God's wisdom is available to guide you, and, in addition, you can reach out to your NACFM family for advice and guidance.
Submitting to God's guidance
requires humility and a willingness to surrender your own agenda in favor of His. It means acknowledging that He sees the bigger picture and understanding that His ways are higher than ours. When you commit your plans and decisions
to Him, He promises to make your paths straight—not necessarily free from obstacles but directed toward His purposes and ultimately for your good.
So, as you navigate the responsibilities of facilities management in October,
take time to cultivate a posture of trust. Seek His wisdom through prayer, meditate on His Word for guidance, and trust that He will faithfully lead you through every challenge you encounter. By relying on God's guidance, you can fulfill
your role as a facilities manager with confidence, knowing that He is with you every step of the way.
I must add that I pray and focus on God and his word when I am writing these monthly devotionals. Some of
them have hit home and have made me look at myself in a deeper way. This devotion was driven by a few people and conversations I have had with them. Yes, I take notes and God prompted me to go over those notes while writing this. James Burns,
Hal Rose, Lief Anderson and Brad Van Horn inadvertently helped me write this. I love our NACFM family! Being able to reach out for help is priceless, as we are helping others when the opportunity arises. God bless! Tory
